Life Style of Metrolink Engineer
Robert M. Sanchez was the Metrolink engineer on board during the train wreck last Friday afternoon. Sanchez died in the accident along with 24 others. Preliminary reports are stating that this accident could have been caused by human error from engineer Sanchez.
People who knew Sanchez describe him as a train enthusiast who also loved Italian greyhounds. Sanchez was a fairly private person that didn’t share too many details of his criminal record or tragedies in his social life. He moved around a lot with addresses that covered Oregon, Colorado, Nevada, Arizona, Nebraska, and California.
In 2002, Sanchez was arrested for stealing some video game equipments. That same year, Sanchez came to live with his partner Daniel Burton in 2000. Burton moved from Connecticut to California for the weather and the freedom to live a gay life style.
On Valentine’s Day, 2003, Burton hanged himself in their home’s garage. Burton left a suicide note saying “Happy Valentine’s Day Rob. I love you. Please take care of yourself and Ignatia. I love you both very much. Daniel.” Ignatia is their dog. Medical reports show that Burton was HIV positive. Sanchez told investigators that he and Burton had been arguing and that he told Burton that he thought they should end their relationship.
He took up interest in breeding greyhounds which landed him a friendship with a breeder, Lillian Barber, 77. They became close meeting each other at least once a week. Barber said that Sanchez loved his job and always feared he may lose it. Barber said that she could not imagine Sanchez doing something irresponsible while on the job.
