Reglan Comes Under FDA Scrutiny

DUI Accidents, Injury News

Millions of people suffer from gastrointestinal problems of some sort, and they are all painful, uncomfortable and inconvenient, especially if the problem with the GI tract involves lack of bowel control or irritable bowel syndrome (IBS).  There are several products on the market these days to help consumers deal with these problems, and for a time one of the most prevalent was Reglan, which is manufactured by Baxter Pharmaceuticals.

Reglan is also sold under several different brand names, including:

  • Reglan® Tablets
  • Reglan® Oral Disintegrating Tablets
  • Reglan® Injection
  • Metoclopramide Oral Solution

These medications are all quite related, and one of the ingredients, metoclopramide, appears to be at the center of the latest controversy with these products.  Specifically, there have been reports of serious side effects developing in those who use Reglan products, including involuntary movements of the extremities, rapid eye movement and several other obvious symptoms that involve the central nervous system.

The FDA has required Baxter to place a ‘black box’ warning on all containers of Reglan products and has also ordered Baxter to perform a study that will determine whether or not the risks of keeping these products on the market outweigh the benefits.

Regardless of the results of this situation, if you or somone you love has been injured as a result of using Reglan products, contact the defective drugs attorneys at Phillips National Injury Group as soon as possible to schedule a free initial consultation.
